NorQuest Community Impact Magazine

  • Primary Art Director of Photography and Design, Lead Designer, Secondary Photographer

  • Project Goal: Increase awareness of NorQuest’s brand through strategic brand storytelling, sharing compelling stories that showcase its students, alumni, and faculty. Design a magazine-inspired publication that balances the need to communicate key messages with integrating dynamic layouts.

  • As Lead Designer and Art Director, art direct and incorporate layouts from fellow designers to form one seamless publication. Ensure story flow and design flow across the magazine has a consistent brand, and also create a new visual experience on each page.

  • Design a piece that invites readers to flip through and learn more about NorQuest.

  • Art Direct for impact, tell an authentic story with the photos and ensure a clear concept is communicated through visuals and layout.

  • Provide guiding art direction to the photographer to capture ‘lightning in a jar’, authentic moments in photography that invite viewers to learn more about these incredible student’s stories.

  • Project Success: Each year, we progressed the design closer to a magazine-styled publication, we won several international design and communication awards, and we increased NorQuest’s brand awareness and reputation in our communities as a leader in post-secondary education.

  • From 2014 – 2019, the magazine won 4 international communications and design Awards (CASE), for its quality of work, impact, and design, with a distribution of just under 300,000 copies across Alberta.

Our best edition to date, the collection of stories in Community Report are not to be missed! Mass distribution to just under 300,000 households… will begin on June 13. – President’s blog

Well done Helen! Your perseverance in meeting these tight deadlines is greatly appreciated. I think this Community Report will be our best yet! – Creative Manager

Helen is without a doubt the most kind, caring, and compassionate person I have ever met. She always does team check-ins with people and simply asks, ‘How are you doing?’ Given the circumstances that we are all in, it is always nice to be seen and be heard (that isn't work related) and just to connect with each other more often.” - Employee Culture Award nomination for: Be compassionate.

I absolutely loved your design for Community Report! It was so inviting and really stood out. I kept flipping the pages and each page was something even more exciting to look at and read. I loved how beautiful it was and the use of colours… and everything! Great job! – Fellow Teammate

Congratulations! Winning an international communications and marketing award is some pretty high praise! – Director
